That Coffee Place in Sengkang

Sometimes being all-nice-and-average is an advantage. This holds true to That Coffee Place along Compassvale Street in Sengkang. This local coffee house serves authentic traditional coffee and tea, along with all-time Singapore favorites, such as Hor Fun, Econ Bee Hoon, and other local dishes. Nothing spectacularly fancy or over-the-top. Nothing exaggeratedly expensive or unreasonable. It turns out to be just the perfect coffee place for that laidback and dress down Sunday afternoon coffee session.

To get to That Coffee Place is quite an effort considering that it’s tucked away from the city. It’s just less than 500 steps from the Sengkang Compassvale LRT station though. Not too difficult to find. It’s in a corner lot with towering trees and crisp house-like exterior. A huge signboard with big bold letters “eat.drink.chill.”, three knee-weakening words known to any comfort lover. It sure is THAT coffee place.

That Coffee Place may be too redundant for locals who have already lived, breathed, and experienced their traditional coffee for quite some time already. But for non-locals, this is a good find, because not only does it highlights all the traditional coffee and food choices you can find in hawker centres and kopitiams, it also highlights how the locals eat – drink – and chill. The place is wide and carefree. Unlike hawker centers and kopitiams, this coffee house is certainly cleaner and quieter. You’ll get to enjoy the nice teh tarik you order with no haste and no waste.

You’d think Singapore is all about the good and finer things in life (read: more expensive), and you suddenly shift your perception about it, because of good inexpensive finds, like this one. This coffee place shows how much Singaporeans appreciate simple chill kind of relaxation without being too boring. It sure is nice and average, but in this case, it works well to its advantage.
