Purple Mustard in Tanjong Pagar, Singapore

Purple Mustard in Tanjong Pagar
I’d say Subway has proven to be the national sandwich of Singapore. Everywhere you go, Subway and long queues always go together side by side. It’s rare not to see people lining up for some subs. This has actually been my daily battle. To conquer or get defeated by a six inch hearty Italian tuna sub. Of course, there are “dumb days” when I question my decision making skills. Why would I line up for so long if I can find other good, if not maybe even better, sub options? That’s where Purple Mustard in Tanjong Pagar comes into play. This fusion of American and Western sandwiches are definitely one of the better ones you can find in Singapore.

Inside the Icon Village sits a petite food joint, with streaks of purple and highlighter yellow found across the place. From the most convenient route - Tanjong Pagar MRT Station, it’s a good three minute walk. As this place has a little unreliable opening hours schedule (there are days when it’s closed! Like now for instance.). Best time to go here is during weekday lunch time, where there are small queues, but notably not as long as the ones in Subway.

Though Purple Mustard is chiefly about hotdog sandwiches, which is obviously different from the conventional trending sandwiches here in Singapore, the food choices here are interesting to make you want to try them out. From their renowned Barnyard Dog, to Chicago Chardog, Yucatan Chic, El Toro, Gyro, and French Onion Soupless, it’s quite difficult not to pick something. They give generous amounts of toppings and their choices of breads are all good. This place is that go-to refuge for office breaks, quick lunches, and chill after office talks.
A Purple Mustard sandwich has yet to become a national staple, but it gives itself a good game. It’s only a matter of time when we see people lining up here even more; but in the meantime, in my book, leading the line here is a good decision to make because the Barnyard Dog sandwich makes it so.
