One of the fascinatingly desirable things to do when moving to a new country is the adventure of House Hunting. It is true in Singapore. The clean towering buildings just look awesome to live in. Feasting on different impressions of the buildings from different areas of Singapore is great. That’s a fact. You’ll see the neighborhood full of trees, neat roads, parks, playgrounds, and food centers; it’s quite easy to conclude that everything is picture-perfect. It is.
But what makes it so are the gritty stuff too. The stories, the experiences, the daily routines – these are the fun stuff that makes the house hunting and the actual house living experiences worth share. We had some of the craziest and funniest culture-shocking experiences when we started the house hunting process in Singapore. And we were even playing it safe with this one (read: considering budget and comfort over adventure and suspense). Still, we had our share of silly stories. From weird landlord stories, peculiar house policies, and amusing neighborhood, Singapore is quite a character. Here are some of the collection of the different houses / places we’ve managed to look at. From HDB flats, room rentals, condominium living, we’ve tried everything! Meeting Singaporeans, Malaysians, Indians, Filipinos, Vietnamese, Myanmese, Indonesians, Caucasians, Agents, Families, Seniors, Students, etc. This is one of the closest and coolest ways to learn about the local culture, “do as the locals do” kind of thing. And, these things led us to the place we now call home – the imperfectly perfect one.
