Jurong Bird Park – Where Color Lives
Jurong Bird Park – Where Color Lives
Aside from the Night
Safari, Singapore
Zoo, and River
Safari, there is still another wildlife reserve in the west side of
Singapore worth traveling to: Jurong
Bird Park. This Aviary Park is actually one of the most renowned bird
sanctuaries in the world, ever since it opened in 1971, housing some of the
largest free-flying aviaries across the planet. Here you get a chance to see Asia’s largest bird park,
complete with diverse collection of exotic birds and species.

There are three ways to get to the Jurong Bird Park – via MRT and
bus, via self-drive or taxi, or via direct bus ride. If you want to avoid the
physical hassle of walking, queuing, and riding the people-packed public
transport, self-drive or taxi is the way to go. On the other hand, riding the
MRT (Boon Lay Green Line) and Bus
services (Bus 194 or 251) aren’t that bad either, because up to a certain
point, it won’t get crowded anymore; Jurong Bird Park is at the last stop of
these routes. The best time to go at the Jurong Bird Park would be on weekdays; these are schedules where the park isn’t too crowded with families and school kids. It’s opened as early as 8:30 AM in the morning, so going here early is a good idea.

Similar to the other Singapore Wildlife Reserves, the overall
theme and interesting details found in the Jurong Bird Park are quite
consistent with the rest. It’s a huge walk-in aviary with divided into
different themed areas. They have a Waterfall Aviary, where you’ll
see birds fly around the waterfall setting. They have the world’s largest Lory
Loft, where bird feeding is the way to go. And, they have a Penguin
Coast, where penguin encounter sessions are encouraged.
The parked is mapped out in such a way that it’s not narrowly nested on birds alone – there are areas where people get closely interact with them too. Two things worth checking out: Breeding and Research Center – gives people a behind-the-scene view on how eggs are being taken cared of, especially the endangered ones. Another one is the High Flyers Show, where people get to see an amazing lineup of birds doing stunts and acts. Definitely, this is a place good for alfresco adventure bonding with friends, family, and travelers.
Overall, this is one of the nicer experiences you can learn from this city state. It’s one of the must-see places if you are visiting Singapore for the first time, because it helps you understand how much Singapore values animal life too. Experiencing the 400+ species of feathered friends through different layers of learning is an experience worth adding in your bucket list.
