Dolce Tokyo Café – Japanese Italian Fusion
Dolce Tokyo Café in Somerset
The Dolce
Tokyo Café in 313 Somerset is one of the food
fusion concepts worthy of being your favorite. ‘Dolce’ means ‘sweet’ in Italian,
btw. This perfect world of Japanese and Italian cuisines all designed in one
café is just absolutely brilliant. It’s the sweetest escape you can go to when
you find yourself swinging around Somerset area.
The Dolce Tokyo Café is located inside the illustrious 313
Somerset Mall, just a few levels above the Somerset MRT Station
(Red Line). It will literally take you less than five minutes from the MRT up
to here; though, the queue might be long and wide with all the Singaporeans
eager to dine in at this posh café. The best time to go and spend time here
would be on weekdays, where you are sure to get a seat in just a few minutes.
It’s quite difficult not to notice the Dolce Tokyo Café, because
of two things. One, the queue is almost always as long as it wants it to be. I’ve
been around this area several times already and I always see a long queue. There
are a lot of locals who flock this place, regardless of whether it’s a weekday
or a weekend. Another thing, the overall exterior – with cages and
Hollywood-like bright lights, it is most certain you’ll take a glance back at
this beautiful corner.
The place is good for any time of social gatherings, involving a
few people and a whole lot of light stories. It’s not the type of place you’d
like to spend hours alone, because the place just calls for so much laid-back
extroversion, if you know what I mean. Even the food is like that. Of course, coffee will always be the highlight for
me, but I’d have to say that the desserts are rather like pleasant scene
stoppers too. I’m talking about the lattes, frappes, shakes, teas, and of
course dessert bentos. Japanese and
Italian cuisines are just the perennial first choices for any mood and
occasion, and this café is a good reminder of that. I’ll come back here for the desserts and the place itself. It’s one of the few cafés here in Singapore that gives you a better understanding of the locals’ likes. In as much as they value cultural diversity, even in their food and café choices, it’s evident. They know what they like and they like it that much. It’s a good café place for “people watching”, because you see different layers and groups of locals all on a sweet cheerful disposition. Dolce, indeed.
