Singapore Zoo - The World's Best Rainforest Zoo
Singapore Zoo - The World's Best Rainforest Zoo
One of the staple tour areas in Singapura is the Singapore Zoo. You can’t be a full-pledged traveler here if you haven’t been to this place. You see, even before new sites like Gardens by the Bay, Universal Studios Singapore, and Marina Bay Sands, one of the earliest and illustrious spots are within the areas of Sentosa and Jurong West. Sentosa because of the famous Merlion, and Jurong West area because of the Singapore Zoo.
This is the best travel target to cross down your list if you’d like to see a slightly different side of Singapore, because it’s quite far from the city. There’s no MRT route to go here directly. You either take bus from selected MRT stations (Ang Mo Kio, Choa Chu Kang, Woodlands), or take a cab going here. It’s a good 30-40 minute drive away from the city center, so expect a suburban feel of environment compared to the normal Singapore you often see.
Just like the rest of Singapore, this zoo is quite clean and orderly compared to other zoos in Asia. It’s probably as good as the Taipei Zoo. Even when you expect some stinking smell or some wet walkways, because of the animals within the area, the place still reeks of good animal hygiene.
It’s one of those zoos where you won’t feel out of place, because often we think that a zoo is only for children – but here, there are different people, from all walks of adventure, visiting the place. There are kids, couples, travelers, groupies, photographers, and families.
The Singapore Zoo looks vast enough to accommodate animals which one wouldn’t even imagine could have existed. There are interactive areas for learning too. But of course the best part, the animal variety. A lot, a lot.

Every so often, the Singapore Zoo tries to upgrade their animal list by importing really cool finds in the Animal Kingdom. Recently, they managed to bring in one of the coolest and biggest animals I have ever seen being showcased in a zoo: a polar bear. Although I admit there are other cool finds, such as the raccoon dog, the wolverine, the Malayan flying fox, and the White-faced Saki Monkey, there is something about the Frozen Tundra Zone that is really encapsulating.
