Chinatown Heritage Centre – Chinatown Trail in Singapore

Most probably, Chinatown ranks as the most popular place here in Singapore among travelers who’d like to know more about Singapore; it’s truly a melting pot of Singapore food, culture, and history. Yes, it’s a multicultural country, but it’s predominantly Chinese too. So, this place is an absolute must go, if you are visiting Singapore for the very first time. The Chinatown Heritage Centre is the best place to start in Chinatown, because it gives the biggest historical overview about the Chinese Heritage here in Singapore.

The place is very accessible as it’s right outside the Chinatown MRT Station, and there are a lot of shopping and food establishments surrounding it. The entrance is rather red, just like the rest, so it may be a little confusing to find it at first, but not to worry because it is there for sure. Haha. I mean, who gets lost if there's a BIG HUGE GIGANTIC sign that says Chinatown Heritage Centre? They have a relatively small entrance somewhere though. Haha.

The place features family-friendly exhibitions of Chinese culture and history. From old pictures, audio presentations, and historical artifacts, the way the Chinatown Heritage Centre depicted the local Chinese community. Plus, there’s a rustic-like tailor shop showing how the Chinese handled their tailoring needs in the past, because that was the fad and way of life back then.

The concept of “old celebrations in a new place” being showcased by the Chinatown Heritage Centre is a good representation of the place. It captures how the transition happened for these group of people. The place characterizes how the Chinese continued to celebrate their age-old customs and traditions, which helped them to adjust and build their culture here in Singapore.
