Why You Should Visit Sankeien Garden, Yokohama
Sankeien Garden in Yokohama
Traveling to Yokohama, Japan gives you a fortuitous favor to see and experience one of the best and most beautiful Japanese landscapes ever fashioned. Travel and tourism in Yokohama won’t be the same without the Sankeien Garden, which is an exceptional embodiment of how much Japan credits historical value and Japanese tradition.
How to get to the Sankeien Garden is relatively
easy compared to other places in Japan. There are two options, both involving a
transportation ride and some quick walking. First option is from Yokohama
Station (East Exit). Then take bus number 8 or 125 to Honmoku Sankeien-mae,
which will be around 30 to 45 minute depending on the traffic.

From there, Sankeien is another five minutes by foot. Another option is from Negishi Station (JR Negishi Line). It’s a bus (54, 58, 99, 101, 108) to Honmoku. Sankeien is another 5-10 minutes by foot from the stop. If all else fails, you can still opt to take a cab from the train station, which will be less than 1 hour ride to this place.

This garden is certified old school,
dating way back before even World War. It’s a traditional Japanese Garden
intended for a wealthy Japanese Family during the bygone time. Because of the
vastness and serenity of the place, at first glance, there’s so much to take
in. The Japanese garden introduces ponds, streams, paths, and floras to make
that garden as alive and imperial as it is intended to be so. There are also
historic structures, such as a three story Japanese pagoda, and a residential
place, that adds diversity from all the greeneries here. The placing and
spacing of each detail is faultless.
Yokohama’s very own beautiful-driven garden is a postcard worthy place to see. Travel guides and other references would say that the best time to go and visit is during the Cherry Blossoms period or the Winter or the Autumn time. But, I’d say the best time to go is now. Those suggestions are just add-ons to the already picturesque place. It’s a favorite even without the hype of a particular season. It’s a perfect prospect for old friends, old folks, soloists, and wary travelers who would like to have some alone time with Japan’s interpretation of nature’s beauty.
