Tamu Kianggeh – Food Market in Bandar Seri Begawan

Tamu Kianggeh
Haven’t you noticed that in Asian countries, one of the IN places to be at for travelers are local markets? If you read and travel a lot, you will perceive that even avid travelers prefer to go to these places sometimes as this is where real life and adventure happens. You’ll see the rawness of people and culture. For Brunei, it’s Tamu Kianggeh.

Reach it either by foot or by local bus rides. This place was a stone’s throw away from our hotel so early morning we headed here. It’s quite near the bus terminal so be sure to board any purple bus and it’s almost sure that it’ll bound at the bus terminal near this place. Once you touch down, first thing you’ll notice is the mini city riverside around the area. Be sure to be at your most travel rugged look so as to blend in and feel at one with the rest of the market crowd.

This is an interesting market amongst many that can be found here in Brunei. If in Thailand, they have the floating markets, here in Bandar Seri Begawan, they have a Venice-like river where you can actually ride the boats to reach from point Awesome to point Brilliant. The market is also a good highlight as it’s compact yet complete with all the Brunei goods that would want to find. Spices, poultry, souvenirs, local street foods - everything is scattered everywhere. Bring your game face on for some oogling and some haggling - Market Madness!
Best time to go would be early morning (check out the morning mist in the pictures!), when the sun just rose from its slumber and everyone is just starting to be fully awake and excited about the day. You’ll smell Brunei fog of coffee and local foods being cooked. You’ll see the place start to come alive! If your culture craving can handle it, be sure to try some local street foods. And then end your trip with that boat ride just outside the market. Tamu Kianggeh vibe!
