Bangkok Elephant Show
Bangkok Elephant Show
No time to teach your pet new tricks? Is it a big challenge for you? Well, not to Thais. They find this rather easy actually! They have their own ways, yes. So instead of dogs, cats, rats, bats, or what have you, they decided to take the biggest challenge of all: Elephas maximus.Elephants with a whole lot of tricks to show off! That’s right. Elephant shows are widely held in Thailand. Well, we wouldn’t have second thoughts about this since this is in fact the symbol of their nation. Thailand Pride! These shows are well-known and a lot of people - students, tourists, couples, and locals – would gladly get a glimpse of these magnificent and very entertaining elephant shows.
Around Bangkok area, they have this Samphran Elephant Ground Zoo, which is located in Nakhon Pathom province about 56 kilometers outside Bangkok to the west side. It would take around one day trip via bus or car. Read: worth it! It’s best and most convenient to take a local tour being offered by Tourist centers around the city.
When you reach the place, the first thing that you’ll recognize would definitely be the gargantuan statues of crocodiles and elephants. There are rules and watch outs posted to remind the public on the dos and donts of the place.
The highlight, of course, is the open stadium where the elephants perform. They have an epic presentation with some tribal dances and interactions with the audience. These elephants are not ashamed to show off their gymnastic skills as well as their passion for sports. They do some dancing, and a little bit of acting. Everything is enjoyable.
My personal favorite would be the after show, where the elephants get to do some meet and greet with the humans. They sit comfortably outside the stadium. All you need are some sweet bananas and you’re all set. You can slowly stroke their massive ears or play around with their noses versus your banana gifts. It’s an experience worth trying as you get to be so close to these well-revered giants. If you want to take a step further, you can also try the elephant ride, which will cost you some money for a good fifteen to thirty minute ride. Overall, the Elephant Show in Thailand is a sure must-try for people are into enjoying new experiences and tricks from (animal) life’s adventures.
