Children Little Museum - Singapore's Toys of History
Children Little Museum - Singapore's Toys of History
When you’re young, all you dream is growing up and being able to do all
the adult stuffs that seem cool. Irony is, when you get older, there’s a
distinctive longing to be a kid again because it seems better (or cooler). You
act, think, and feel like a kid. Everything kid-like is something that you
secretly or openly enjoy doing. You hold on to youth in as much as you
can. The Children Little Museum of
Singapore gives people a chance to hold on to that youth once again. It's a
unique museum for all the young ones and young at heart out there. This museum
at 42 Bussorah Street is small and packed with favorable surprises. It’s a two
storey place that looks similar to a quaint house during the 1980s era. For
only 2 SGD, you’ll get a chance to reminisce about your childhood through
different toys and stories, as this place houses traditional toys from
different parts of Asia.
Everything looks vintage and very cool. The first
floor is full of huge hip items; things that will remind you of events from the
past and good-have-beens. The place looks like a small bar or club during the
olden times: there's a bar area, refrigerator, and nice lighting. You’ll
actually see how resourceful and creative people from the olden days were. The
details, colors, and structures were so awesomely created. The second floor is a little
different. It’s more all-encompassing than the first floor. Every classic toy
are kept, labeled, and left for admiration. You’ll see toys from different
eras, and from different races.
You’ll see toys for girls, sports toys, and book shops. There are plastic toys, cameras and coconut leaves insects. Crafts, humpty dumpty eggs, and gasings. You’ll see an old hawker stall and a pretty decent imitation of a barber shop.
Funny
thing is, you'll see adults visiting this place more than kids. The
youth nowadays prefer all the digital happiness they can get from their toys.
But once in a while, you'll see kids visiting this place, and enjoying and
paying tribute to the toy era of the last few decades (it's gaining
popularity!).
This is a reminder that even as adults can still have child-like dreams and happiness; that we are backed-up by great childhood memories. Likewise, for the youth who visit this place, it’s a good reminder that formative years are truly worth preserving – need to enjoy and make the most out of it. The museum is a good reminder of childhood and adulthood, but most certainly, of all things cool and distinctive.
