Beijing's Bird's Nest - The Best Nest In The Planet
Beijing's
Bird's Nest in China
The
inner architect in me really enjoys watching National Geographic’s Mega Structures, a program that features
manmade structures worth wow-ing and awe-ing. From conceptualization to grand
launch, everything is so incredible. Most of the structures are made over the
last few decades, which is why the development and design of everything is so
swift and staggering! And although every ounce of story and structure each
episode has is intense, I admit I never really quite understood the wow and awe
I have for the structures - not until Beijing.
The Bird’s Nest of Beijing commands much reverence and admiration. These Chinese people are truly the super geniuses when it comes to these kinds of mammoth marvels. Imagine, even after their ancient mega hit, the Great Wall of China, who would have thought, right? A lot of nations got inspired and built their own unique structures, but China took a step further; they managed to deliver an outstanding modern edifice, one that is exceptionally original, useful, and superior.
This national stadium masquerading as a giant nest was constructed for the 2008 Olympics. Since then, it has become one of China’s landmark and pride. Here’s a trivia: Did you know that the design actually originated from the study of Chinese ceramics? Yes, it was not because Beijing birds or what have you. Ceramics - really interesting inspiration. What a Genius!
China strategically “wasted” a whole lot of space for this massive
nest. Before you reach the stadium itself, you’ll have to wander around
colossal spaces of streets and walk areas. Not to worry, as these things add
more drama and panorama to the whole thing: it makes the whole Bird’s Nest look
striking.
Around (and inside the nest) will certainly not disappoint either. Everything tweets “China Pride!”. It just looks so well crafted. This is the first time in your life where you will see thousands upon thousands of steel beams! Thousands upon thousands of originality! What's cooler is that it looks way better during evening time where all the lights are playing around - what a sight. Beijing’s Bird’s Nest is one of this city’s contemporary structural highlights. It’s a mega structure that is truly worth your wander. It’s feeling your inner architect and understanding the cultural genius that is China.
