Singapore Photo Essay: Marina Bay Sands Sky Park - The Best View of Singapore
Marina Bay Sands Sky Park - The Best View of Singapore
So May is the month of mothers and that includes Mother Traveler! Uh, did that make sense? Oh yea it didn’t cos I sure was babbling to make a nonsensical open liner HAHAHAHAHA Was actually thinking that since I won’t be able to travel to any “new” city this month, might as well start with the writings that I’ve been deferring for quite some time already - you know, newfound entries on places.
And what great way to start off the show with one of my all time favorite places: Singapore! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I’m a cheat. I know that sounded too biased, but for a city as contemporary and as dynamic as Singapore city, who wouldn’t be? If you’ve been following my wanderings for a while already, you’ll know that one of the best 2012 changes I’ve been to is uprooting myself and moving here for new beginnings. Been here for a couple of months already, and so far everything that I’ve hoped for is just happening amazingly (and maybe even more than that!). From faces, to places, and a little bit of food and new things in between, everything is incredible.
Which now brings me to: One of the most incredible places to see in Singapore is of course, the Marina Bay Sands Sky Park. For only a couple of dollars, it’s actually money well spent for a priceless panoramic vantage point of Singapore’s busy cityscape. It’s located at the uppermost deck of the most magnificent Venice boat-topped building.
You will be greeted by queued photographs and cameras. The entrance area of the Sky Park is for touristy things: photographs with same day edits and some souvenir items. Then of course, the highlight: the stratosphere view of Singapore city. Goose bumps in the skies? Worth every goose and bump. Maybe it’s because of the weather up there, or maybe because of all other unthinkable reasons, but everything about the view and the place just demand awe and well, more pictures. You will see an astonishing vantage point of city lights, crazy new breed of structures and soon to be landmarks, perfectly embossed amid the quiet skies of Singapore. It’s a really beautiful view knowing that you’re that closer to heaven.
The best time to go there is around sunset time, 6:00-ish. That time is where beginnings meet endings. It’s where you will see a play of colors between the skies and scrappers, tinkering city colors versus fleeting sunset palettes. All the busy people will surely dial down a few seconds just to gaze and be amazed at the awesome Singapore sight. Just ridiculously awesome!
You don’t need to be educated or plan a long itinerary when you visit this place. Sure you can try the posh restaurant, or buy a souvenir. But the punch, the kick, the show stopper of this experience is the spontaneous walking and taking pictures you can do. No seriously, this seemingly plain approach is the perfect match for this very pompous setting. It’s like you’re in a wistful state but better: it’s for real.
So when you visit Singapore, be sure to allot time and money to experience this MUST. Yes, it’s comparable with all other overlooking views of other cities around Asia, but what makes the experience incomparable is the promise that the Marina Bay Sands Sky Park will deliver new found beginnings of present and future Singapore.
