First Time Traveling Abroad
First Time Traveling Abroad
As my innocent eyes carefully skimmed the
feathery horizon, I saw my reflection on the plane's windowpane. A quiet smile glistening with overflowing
gladness was staring back at me. I could almost touch the clouds. The sun
was shining brilliantly amidst the sapphire sky, and I was finally living my
dream, that's what I thought. I was on top of the world.
I was barely 21 years old when I had my first
trip abroad. It was a week-long holiday trip to the city of Merlions. True
enough, everything SG back then was
first-rate. From transportation, to culture, to people, and food, Singapore
did not disappoint my newborn traveling spirit. Seeing how things worked in a
foreign place was fairly hard to grasp at first. We had the best highlights and
the most shameful downers, but at the end of it all, we had quality fun. I felt lucky because not everyone living in
a third world country could afford to travel abroad; and to travel with the
whole clan was quite a feat. It was not grand, planned, or perfect, but the
overall experience was meaningful. Indeed, this was one of the best first time
experiences I shall forever reminisce.
Traveling abroad for the first time really enlightens
a person: the feeling is like learning an exceptional talent or experiencing
that authentic first kiss. It awards a person that tinge of wisdom and that
sensation of unexplainable bliss. It
gives a person an exhilarating sense that the world, as big as it is, is worth
discovering.
Even
after exploring countless countries, experiencing bountiful cultures, and going
through numerous traveling fiascos, looking back, I still find myself
revisiting that unforgettable epiphany slash first travel abroad experience. Everyone should seize that first windowpane
moment.
